Futures Nudge Higher Overnight, Tokyo CPI Due

The twist flattening of the U.S. Tsy curve provided some support for JGB futures in overnight trade, with the contract adding 4 ticks during after-hours dealing.

  • Late on Thursday Japan's government left its main economic assessment unchanged from the previous month but upgraded its assessment on housing investment for the first time since January. Overall, Japan's economy is still seeing signs of weakness in some areas, although there are signs of recovery from the pandemic, the government said.
  • There has been a lack of meaningful domestic news flow elsewhere.
  • Tokyo CPI data headlines the local docket on Friday.
