Wires carrying comments from Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, stating that the Israeli operation to degrade Hezbollah in Lebanon will continue until the stated goal of returning Israeli citizens to the North of the country is achieved.
- Gallant: "We will continue to pursue our enemy in order to protect our citizens... the sequence of actions in the new phase will continue until our goal is achieved: safe return of residents of the north to their homes."
- The comment comes after Israel claims that “around 10” senior Hezbollah commanders from the elite Radwan unit were killed today in an airstrike that targeted senior Hezbollah commander, Ibrahim Aqeel.
- The New York Times notes that after a year of low-intensity exchanges, "Israel is attempting a riskier playbook. It has markedly increased the intensity of its attacks in an attempt to force Hezbollah to back down, while raising the chances of the opposite outcome: a more aggressive response from Hezbollah that devolves into an unbridled land war."
- Barack Ravid at Axios notes that US President Joe Biden said at the top of a White House Cabinet meeting a short time ago that, "he is working on a solution that will allow civilians in Northern Israel and Southern Lebanon to go back to their homes." Biden said: "We have to get this done, but we still have a way to go."
