Galveston Bay Hydrotreater Restarted

Marathon restarted the resid hydrotreater over the weekend at its 593,000 bpd Galveston Bay Refinery in Texas City, Texas according to a Reuters source.

  • The refinery’s sulfur recovery unit had to reduce its sulfur load on Saturday according to the same source.
  • The 60,000-bpd resid hydrotreating unit had been out of production since July 18.
  • The unit produces diesel and fuel oil from residual fuel.
  • US diesel and gasoline cracks have pulled back from recent highs but are well above levels seen at the start of the month. Gasoline strength was recently boosted by the FCC outage at Exxon’s Baton Rouge refinery – p[potentially out for 2-3 weeks. Cracks have since retreated slightly.
  • A gasoline cargo from Saudi Arabia’s Jizan refinery has been diverted away from New York to a storage hub in the Bahamas suggesting a well-supplied physical market according to Bloomberg.
  • US 321 crack down -0.4$/bbl at 37.31$/bbl
  • US gasoline crack down -0.6$/bbl at 37.56$/bbl
  • US ULSD crack down -0.1$/bbl at 36.8$/bbl
