Gasunie and Vopak to Expand Gate LNG Terminal to 20bcm/yr

LNG

Gasunie and Vopak are proceeding with a €350m expansion of the Dutch Gate LNG terminal to increase regasification capacity by 4 Bcm to 20 Bcm/year according to ICIS. The increase comes as the latest effort by European countries to increase LNG import capabilities after the halt to Russia pipeline gas to western Europe.

  • The expansion project will also add a fourth storage tank of 180,000cbm capacity, increasing total storage to 720,000cbm.
  • Customers have already secured long term commercial deals for the new capacity which will be available in the second half of 2026.
  • The Netherlands already added a new LNG terminal last year at Eemshaven. Germany has added three terminals at Wilhelmshaven, Lubmin and Brunsbuettel all starting since late in 2022.
