NATGAS: Gazprom Wants Mechanism for Russian Pipeline & LNG Pricing

Gazprom is insisting on creating a mechanism for controlling/eliminating competition between Russian pipeline gas and Russian LNG on the global market in Russia’s Energy Strategy 2050, Interfax reported.

  • “Despite the decline in gas exports to European countries, this point remains relevant due to the redirection of Russian gas exports towards the east and the Global South,” a senior Gazprom manager told Interfax.
  • Gazprom is focusing on boosting gas exports to the Middle East and Asia, amid plunging sales to European buyers
  • Russian gas imports to Europe have now fallen by 75% compared to pre-war levels, EC President Ursula von der Leyen said at Davos.
  • President Vladimir Putin announced last week that Gazprom planned to supply Iran with up to 55 Bcm /y to Iran via developing new gas pipeline.
  • Meanwhile, operations at Novatek’s Arctic LNG 2 project have been halted since US sanctions were implemented in October 2024.
