General Assembly Approves Resolution Calling For Russia Ukraine Withdrawal

The United Nations General Assembly has approved a resolution condemning Russia for its invasion of Ukraine and calling for the 'immediate, complete, and unconditional' withdrawal of all Russian troops from Ukrainian territory. Of the 181 nations voting, 141 voted in favour, five against, and 35 abstentions.

  • Russia gained the support of Syria, Belarus, North Korea, and Eritrea in voting against the resolution.
  • China, India, South Africa, Pakistan all abstained.
  • UAE voted in favour, having come in for criticism from the West after previously abstaining on a prodecural Security Council vote on condemning Russia for the invasion. Brazil also votes against Russia.
