NATGAS: German Gas Consumption Rises 14% in Week to Jan. 19

German natural gas consumption in the week to Jan. 19 increased 14.15% from the previous week to 9.9% above the 2018-21 average, Bnetza data showed. Industrial demand increased by 17.2% to the highest this winter and above the peak seen in Win23/24. Demand from households and small businesses rose 11.2% on the week.
- Industrial gas consumption rose to 2,284GWh/d in the week compared to 2024 levels of 2,161GWh and 12.6% above the 2018-21 average. Gas consumption from electricity generation is also included in the data.
- Demand from households and small businesses was up to 2,224GWh/d last week, compared to 2,403GWh/d in 2023 and 7.3% above the 2018-21 average.
- German gas demand stood 5.7% below the 2018-21 average the week prior.
- Natural gas inventories in Germany are down to 61.43% full on Jan. 21 from 69.64% a week ago, GIE data shows, with withdrawals rising to the highest since Feb. 2018 on Jan. 21.
