German Jan-Aug Natural Gas Imports Fell 17.9% YoY

German natural gas imports dropped by 17.9% year-on-year to 405bn KWh in the January-August period, BDEW data show.

  • This compares with 494 billion kWh in the same period in 2022.
  • German replaced Russian gas pipeline imports with other origins mostly from Norway and via the Netherlands, and more LNG imports.
  • Norwegian gas imports accounted for 36.9% of all imports while imports via the Netherlands reached a share of 32.5% in August.
