POWER: German Spot Power to Extend Loses

The German spot index is expected to fall for Friday’s delivery with lower residual load, due to higher wind output and lower demand. German February power is rising sharply today, trading at the highest since 3 January, with support from the energy complex.
- Germany Base Power FEB 25 up 4.4% at 111.8 EUR/MWh
- EUA DEC 25 up 2.6% at 81.01 EUR/MT
- TTF Gas FEB 25 up 1.6% at 49.5 EUR/MWh
- German Spark Spreads M1 up 30% at -7.7291 EUR/MWh
- TTF is rebounding today as high storage withdrawals and lower US LNG exports this week due to winter storms are set against mild weather in NW Europe and LNG vessels diversions from Asia to Europe.
- EU ETS December 2025 allowances are also trading higher closely tracking gains in EU gas, after seeing the first decline after nine sessions higher on Wednesday. The next EU EUA CAP3 auction will clear today 11:00CET.
- Wind output in Germany is forecast to rise to 34.56GW during base load on Friday, up from 30.42GW on Thursday. Wind output is forecast to decrease significantly over the weekend according to SpotRenewables.
- The latest 6-10 day ECMWF weather forecast for Dusseldorf suggests mean temperatures have been revised higher on the day with temperatures to remain above normal until early Feb, after which temperatures are in line with the average.
- Mean temperatures in Dusseldorf are forecast to rise to 6.2C on Friday, up from 4.1C on Thursday and above he seasonal average of 2.9C.
- Power demand in Germany is forecast to decrease to 61.64GW on Friday, down from 63.09GW on Thursday according to Bloomberg.
- Residual load in Germany is forecast to decline to 22.28GWh/h on Friday, down from 28.42GWh/h on Thursday according to Reuters.
- Germany’s hydro balance has been revised lower to end at 179GWh on 6 February, compared with 206GWh a day earlier.
