German Storage Filling Faster than Planned

Germany's gas storage facilities are filling up faster than planned according to Economy Minister Robert Habeck

  • "The reservoirs are filling up faster than specified," with hope the 85% October target could be reached by the beginning of September.
  • The government has targeted gas storage levels of 75% by Sep 1, 85% by Oct 1 and 95% by Nov 1. German storage was showing at 82.74% in data for Aug 27.
  • The German gas regulator last week warned that winter gas storage targets would be difficult to meet with later targets not expected to be reached as quickly.
  • Russian gas accounted for 9.5% of Germany's gas consumption in August down from 55% last year according to Der Spiegel.
