Germany Explores Senegalese LNG Exports

Germany is interested in importing gas from Senegal as a replacement for Russian flows according to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz who visited the African nation over the weekend.

  • “We have begun exchanges and we will continue our efforts at the level of experts because it is our wish to achieve progress,” Scholtz said in a news briefing with Senegalese President Macky Sall.
  • Senegal’s gas project off its coast is being led by BP – production is expected next year. LNG output from the country is forecast at 2.5mn tonnes next year according to Sall before growing rapidly to 10mn tonnes by 2030.
  • Germany is making strong commitment towards increasing LNG import capacity on its north coast to pull in higher volumes by vessel and move away from Russian piped gas.
