Germany Opposed to Nord Stream 2 Use

German vice Chancellor Robert Habeck is opposed to using the Nord Stream 2 pipeline to solve maintenance issues on Nord Stream 1 because it would still leave the country dependent on Russia.

• Habeck also spoke today in favour of the European Commission's plan of reducing gas consumption, which is opposed by a number of EU members, and said he hopes these countries "will understand how much the continent is intertwined."

• Habeck's remarks come after Putin said earlier in the week whilst in Iran "we have another ready route, Nord Stream 2. It can be launched. But it is not being launched."
