Germany Prepares For Nord Stream 1 Maintenance
NATURAL GAS
Germany is preparing emergency measures for the Nord Stream 1 maintenance period June 11-21 according to reports.
- Legislation is being developed which is expected to be passed by parliament on July 8 with the aim to impose a levy on all gas consumers to help suppliers deal with soaring costs.
- German officials are concerned that Nord Stream 1 pipeline maintenance may drag on longer than anticipated, adding further pressure on the country to secure supplies.
- The levy will make gas more expensive for everyone instead of the burden falling only on certain households based on who their gas supplier is.
- This week, German utility Uniper was forced to begin bailout talks with the German government as sourcing alternative gas supplies has become cost prohibitive.
