Germany’s SEFE Seeks LNG Supply Deals Of Up To 25 Years

Germany’s gas importer SEFE aims to increase the volume of LNG it handles and is open to signing purchase agreements for as long as 25 years, SEFE Managing Director, Egbert Laege, said.

  • The company’s current LNG operations are mainly short-term spot cargoes.
  • “We are convinced that even in 20 or 25 years from now, there will be a significant demand for LNG on a global basis,” Laege said.
  • European energy companies have been wary of signing long-term purchase contracts on concerns that the fuel will become obsolete in the region’s energy transition to a low-carbon economy, particularly in Germany.
  • Previous attempts to secure LNG for Germany from Qatar, the Middle East’s biggest supplier by far, have ended in deadlock as Doha has resisted calls to lift its strict destination clause.
