Germany’s SEFE Voiced Difficulties to Sign Long-term LNG Deals

SEFE said it is difficult to commit to long-term LNG contracts such as seen in recent days that are lasting 27 years because of the uncertainty around the speed of the energy transition in Europe, Fabian Kor, head of SEFE Singapore, said, cited by Bloomberg.

  • “We don’t know how fast the portfolio needs to be decarbonized,” Kor said.
  • SEFE’s longest contract lasts until 2042, after which date the German government seeks to transition to hydrogen.
  • SEFE signed a binding agreement with Oman LNG in August to buy 400,000 t/yr of LNG from 2026 onwards. In June, the firm signed a deal to buy 2.25mtpa of LNG from Venture Global for the period of 20 years.
