Global Imports Fall on the Week Driven by Japan and China

LNG

Global imports of LNG fell by 0.8m metric tons to 7m tons in the week to 7 May to boost the volumes in floating storage according to Bloomberg.

  • Asia LNG demand remains muted due to high inventory levels and limited cooling demand. The lower market prices are still encouraging some interest from price sensitive buyers in South Asia.
  • Deliveries into Japan fell by 0.8m tons and mainland China by 0.4m tons possibly due to the holiday period according to Bloomberg.
  • Imports to South Korea and Taiwan however increase almost 0.3m tons.
  • NW Europe and Italy reduced imports by over 0.2m tons as deliveries into France normalized after an increase following the return from strike outages.
