Global LNG Imports Declined Last Week Led by North Asia: BNEF

Global LNG imports reduced by 1% w/w in the week to April 28 to 7.8m metric tons driven by a drop of nearly 0.7m tons delivered into North Asia including Japan and mainland China, according to BNEF.

  • Deliveries to mainland China dropped by 0.2m tons, but cumulative monthly imports up to April 28 were 35% and 1.6m tons higher year-on-year. The increase follows Q1 2024 growth from the previous year of 24%.
  • Japan’s weekly imports fell 0.3m tons but cumulative monthly imports were marginally higher than a year ago.
  • Northwest Europe received 0.5m tons more LNG primarily delivered to the Netherlands but with a drop in imports to Spain.
  • Global LNG exports recovered 3% from a week earlier to 7.5m tons despite a decline in US supply of 2% to the lowest level since early February 2023.
  • Volumes from Qatar were 0.1m tons higher and output from Australia also edged higher while volumes from Russia were unchanged.
