Global LNG Imports Expected to Decline in April

LNG

Global LNG imports are forecast to fall 9% in April from March to 30.7m tons as heating demand falls in NW Europe and North Asia according to Bloomberg.

  • China's economic recovery is not expected to offset reduced heating demand and Japan and South Korea imports are forecast to drop due to high gas stockpiles. The lower spot prices may support an increase in demand from India.
  • European imports are expected to fall 12% due to lower demand and high storage levels. European gas storage is forecast to fill by mid October according to Bloomberg based on 10 year average weather.
  • Europe will continue seeing high levels of flexible LNG arrivals as North Asian spot demand stays weak while South Asia continues opportunistic spot purchases.
  • Global LNG supply is expected to fall 7% from March to 33.3m tons with maintenance in Australia, the US and Qatar.
