Global LNG imports are on track to jump this month to a 1-year high amid stronger demand from Europe, which is also drawing cargoes away from Asia, OilPrice.com said.

  • Global LNG imports are forecast to rise to 38.12m mt in Jan. 2025, up from 37.69m mt in Dec, Kpler data showed.
  • This would be the highest since 38.73m mt were imported in Jan. 2024.
  • European LNG imports are at their highest level since April 2023, on track for 11.82m mt in January.
  • Europe’s winter season has been drawing a lot of LNG cargoes away from Asia as NWE LNG outprices JKM with fast depleting gas storage.
  • US LNG supply is incentivised to head to Europe with a $1.40/MMBtu premium over Asia, Spark Commodities said.
