Global LNG Imports up 2% on Week: BNEF

Global weekly imports of LNG rose 2% on the week to 7.7m mt in the 7 days to Aug. 13, according to BNEF.

  • Volumes arriving to mainland China rose almost 0.6m mt, matching the peak for 2023 last seen in January, offsetting the fall in Japanese imports by 0.3m mt.
  • Imports into Northwest Europe and Italy reached 1.2m mt, down 8% compared to the same period in 2022.
  • Exports of LNG fell 6% on the week to 7m mt. US supply rose incrementally by 0.1m mt, but exports from Australia, Qatar, and Indonesia were each down by 0.2m mt.
  • The weather forecasts available from the Global Forecast System for next 14 days from Aug. 14 suggest that regions in Japan, South Korea, China, Northern Europe, and Spain will see heat waves boosting cooling demand above the 10-year averages for the same period.
