Global Weekly LNG Imports, Exports Edged Slightly Higher

Global weekly LNG imports edged up by 0.7% to 7.9mn tons during 19-25 February, as a recovery in imports from China and Taiwan offset lower shipments to Japan and South Korea according to BNEF.

  • Imports into JKCT declined by 0.23mn tons to 3.73mn tons.
  • Japanese LNG imports declined by 0.38mn tons on the week to 1.33mn tons, while shipments to South Korea fell to 0.74mn tons, down from 0.96mn tons the week before.
  • Chinese LNG imports slightly recovered last week after the Lunar New Year Holiday at 1.27mn tons, up from 1.04mn tons the week before.
  • Imports into NW Europe and Italy were mostly flat on the week at 1.60mn tons.
  • Global weekly LNG exports also edged up by 0.7% to 8mn tons during 19-25 February.
  • US LNG exports were mostly stable on the week at 1.91mn tons with Freeport shipping three cargoes instead of four, as seen in previous weeks, due to the outage at one liquefaction train at Freeport.
