Gov Justice Hints At Run For Manchin's Key West Virginia Senate Seat

US

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice (R-WV) has strongly hinted that he may run for the crucial Senate seat of West Virginia Senator Joe Machin (D-WV) in 2024.

  • Justice said in an interview posted on his twitter account: "I've given it a lot of thought and I am still very very very seriously considering it and, in fact, I am probably leaning that way and you'll hear an announcement very soon," adding that "I'm not one to tease people or mess around."
  • Justice has made two high-profile party allegiance shifts. He was registered as a Republican until 2015 before being elected to the West Virginia Governor's mansion as a Democrat in 2016. He then switched back to Republican in support of former President Donald Trump.
  • Senator Manchin, who is yet to formally declare his intention to run for re-election, is considered the most vulnerable Senate Democrat on the slate for 2024 with the seat almost certain to flip to the GOP if he choses not to run.
