Gov't Congress Leader-No Initiative In To Change Central Bank Chief

Wires carrying comments from the gov't leader in Congress stating that, "There is no gov't guidance regarding replacing the central bank chief." Says that the, "Gov't wants dialogue about interest rates, there is no initiative in Congress about changing the current central bank status."

  • On 7 Feb President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva called on BCB President Roberto Campos Neto to "grow more mature and think about how to take care of the country” arguing that high interest rates were holding back the economic recovery. Comes after policy makers signaled that interest rates could remain higher for longer.
