Governor Remolona Says BSP Is Unlikely To Ease Policy At Next Meeting

BSP Governor Remolona holds a media briefing after the announcement of the on-hold monetary policy decision, warning of a challenging growth outlook, moderating economic activity and a higher inflation outlook due to global oil prices.

  • Remolona says that tighter monetary policy is not a factor in slower growth, while the central bank stands ready to hike rates again if needed to contain inflation. The Governor does not expect monetary easing at the next meeting. He says that the BSP want to lower the RRR but don't know when; in his view, it wouldn't make sense to cut the RRR while in tightening mode.
