Greece Raises September Energy Subsidies

Greece aims to protect its citizens from soaring energy prices by doubling subsidies for power bills in September to 1.9 billion euros ($1.89 billion) according to the country’s energy minister today.

  • “The ongoing war (in Ukraine) is dramatically worsening the energy crisis,” Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas said.
  • The subsidies will absorb up to 94% of the rise in monthly power bills for households and 89% of the rise for small and medium-sized firms, Skrekas said.
