Hang Seng Firms At Open, AUD Extends Gains

The Hang Sang has opened dealing ~3.1% firmer and the Hang Seng Tech Index is up ~5%. Over the weekend the China Securities Regulatory Commission cut the levy charged on stock trades from 0.1% to 0.05%, effective from today. It is the first time the levy has been cut since April 2008.

  • In the FX space the AUD has extended recent gains and sits up ~0.5% last printing at $0.6430/35, resistance is at $0.6488 (high from 24 Aug). Elsewhere ing G-10 NZD is up ~0.3%, and the Scandies are firmer although liquidity is generally poor in Asia.
  • US Equity Futures are also higher, E-minis are up ~0.2% as are NASDAQ futures.
  • In the FI space spillover is limited thus far, US Tsy Yields are holding cheaper rising ~1bp across the major benchmarks.
