Harris Gets Boost From Young And Latino Voters

US

A new Harris Poll survey have shown that Democrats have closed a large enthusaism gap amongst Latino voters that opened up prior to President Biden's withdrawal from the race.

  • Axios writes: “The shift to a Harris-Walz ticket has particularly energized millennial Latinos — ages 28-43 — as well as the younger Generation Z and women in this fast-growing demographic… Those voting blocs of Latinos appear especially motivated by having a new alternative to former President Trump.”
  • John Gerzema, at The Harris Poll, said: "It's back to a wide-open race. With Latinos, we were seeing this pronounced shift in enthusiasm toward Trump and a populist message. Now, this is a new race. It's a reset."
  • Harris’ resurgence amongst Latino voters appears to be a key contributor to her strength in Arizona and Nevada – two key swing states that appeared to be trending decisively towards Trump before Biden’s withdrawal from the race.
  • The Washington Post reports that, based on a “slew” of polls, “Harris’s improvement over Biden is heavily a function of increased support from women and younger voters.”
  • The Post notes that Harris has gained between four and eight points amongst women and a more dramatic 12-18-point shift amongst young voters.
