Harris Strengthens In Sun Belt But Trump Retains Edge On Economy

US

Several new polls show Vice President Kamala Harris retaining or extending her lead in national polling. An ABC/WaPo/Ipsos poll, released on Saturday found Harris now leads by four-points, up from a dead heat in July.

  • A CBS poll found that Harris leads Trump 51%-48% nationally with the pair tied on 50% in battleground states.
  • Polling suggests that, although Harris has recovered slightly compared to Biden, voters continue to trust Trump more on the economy. The ABC/WaPo/Ipsos survey found that Trump, “now holds nine-point leads on the economy and inflation.”
  • WaPo notes that, “Americans continue to see the economy in negative terms, with 72 percent saying the current economy is either not so good” or poor," but adds that “more than 6 in 10 say she’s had limited influence on the administration’s economic policies,” - pointing towards an off-ramp for Harris to make a clean break from Biden on the economy.
  • According to a New York Times/Siena College survey, Harris now leads by at least 4 points in Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Winning these four states would be enough for Harris to win the White House.
  • The Siena College survey provides further data to support the theory that Harris has brought the Sun Belt back into play an opened a crucial second pathway to winning the presidency. Axios notes that Harris’ resurgent Sun Belt strength has elevated Georgia to a must-win state for Trump.
