Health Reform Bill Passes First Hurdle

  • After several weeks of discussion, Colombia’s lower house labour and health committee approved the government-proposed health reform bill on Wednesday night. The bill now needs to be approved by a Senate committee, the full Senate and the lower house to become law.
  • According to its leader, Efraín Cepeda, the Conservative Party announced that it will vote against the labor reform bill as it no longer promotes job creation.
  • Retail and industrial confidence data for April are published today. BanRep’s board of directors meet on Friday, but this is not a monetary policy decision meeting.
  • Separately, Commerce Minister German Umaña meets with US Trade Representative Katherine Tai.
