Hundreds Of Ukrainian Troops Killed As Russian Invasion Continues

SECURITY

Ukraine's Interior Ministry says hundreds of troops have likely been killed in Russian attacks as shelling of targets across the country continues with no signs of easing. Reports suggest that Russia has struck targets as far west as near Lutsk and Luhansk, while seemingly focusing on Ukrainian military sites.

  • Russia is now conducting a full-scale military invasion deep into Ukraine's territory. Multiple localities have been targeted by cruise and ballistic missile strikes, air rides and shelling, with Russian ground troops crossing borders from several directions. It also appears that cyberattacks by Russia-backed hackers are ongoing, with main websites of several Ukrainian state agencies still down.
  • Ukraine noted it has shot down five Russian jets and a helicopter in east parts of the country which Moscow denies. Russian Defence Ministry said it had neutralised Ukraine's military airbases and air defence systems.
  • The Russian troops have been joined by reinforcements from Belarus and the Donbas rebels. Separatist leaders declared that they were looking to seize more territory.
  • Ukraine's lawmakers have agreed to declare martial law, with its leaders noting that the country is mounting armed resistance. President Zelensky is holding a flurry of high-level, with Western leaders pledging to announce powerful sanction packages against Moscow later today.
