Hungary Insist That Russian Ministers be Excluded from EU Sanction Package

  • Hungary has insisted that three Russian ministers should be excluded from the EU’s ninth package of sanctions on Russia, EUobserver reported on Friday, citing unnamed diplomats.
  • "It is high time that the swamp was drained here in Brussels," Prime Minister Orban said in a video message on Facebook on Thursday, MTI report. The fact that "the left-wing vice-president of the European Parliament was arrested over corruption charges" has left its mark on the Brussels summit of the European Union, he said.
  • Hungarian inflation may accelerate by 2ppt in December after the removal of the fuel price cap and peak at 25%-26%, Economic Development Minister Nagy said yesterday, according to VG.hu. Nagy blames the jump in energy price import costs for temporary imbalances and said otherwise the current account and budget would be balanced.
  • Orban may speak on state radio in his usual weekly interview today, before traveling to Bucharest to sign a deal to import electricity from Azerbaijan via Georgia and Romania on Saturday. There are no major economic releases scheduled today.
