Hungary Interested in Gas from Romania Black Sea Project

Hungary is interested in purchasing gas from Romania’s Neptun deep project, according to Bloomberg.

  • Additional volumes from Romania would help meet Hungarian gas demand, expected to be around 10 bcm/year.
  • However, Hungary contrasts from other EU members in that it does not plan to fully replace Russian gas imports and has signed deals with Russia to boost natural gas deliveries.
  • Production from the Neptun project is due to start in 2026. Its production when operational is estimated to be around 10 bcm/year.
