ENERGY: Hungary Looks to Diversify Gas Supply via Romania

Hungary is looking to diversify its gas supplies by working with Romania, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Monday via Facebook.
- Szijjarto and the Romanian Minister of Energy Sebastian Ioan Burduja an intergovernmental agreement on solidarity measures to safeguard the security of gas supply in Budapest on Monday according to local media reports.
- With the agreement, he added that the dominance of Hungary’s gas deliveries from the south has increased.
- He said the interconnector between Hungary’s and Romania’s gas networks had an annual capacity of 2.6 billion cubic metres. Last year, 1.8 billion cubic metres of gas was delivered through the interconnector.
- Romania is set to become a net exporter of natural gas as a new offshore gas field is set to start production soon.
