HUNGARY: Hungary Will Do Everything to Avoid “Pro-War Europeans” Thwarting Peace

HUNGARY
  • "After three years of war now there is a chance for peace, therefore we'll do everything to prevent Brussels and pro-war Europeans from thwarting an American-Russian agreement aimed at achieving peace," foreign minister Peter Szijjarto said on Facebook this morning.
  • EU foreign ministers including Hungary’s Szijjarto will meet in Brussels at the Foreign Affairs Council to discuss Russian aggression against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. Ahead of the meeting, Szijjarto said "we will see each other in the eye and there will be great pressure but we will not give in”.
  • There are no local data releases scheduled for today, with focus on the NBH rate decision tomorrow afternoon, where the central bank is again expected to keep policy on hold. Our full preview of the decision, with a summary of sell-side analyst views, will be released this afternoon.
