ICE Brent Open Interest Rises to Highest Since Oct 2021

Brent crude futures open interest has risen this week above the high of the year so far to the highest since October 2021. ICE Brent is up above the high of 2.3m seen several times this year and up to 2.335m yesterday. Nymex WTI open interest is however slightly lower on the week at 1.703m after reaching a peak early in September.

  • Nymex ROB gasoline futures open interest remains stable this week after rising to the highest since Feb 2022 last week.
  • ICE Gasoil futures open interest has just edged slightly higher to 0.715m on the week but still below levels seen in July and August.
  • Brent trading volumes have been high this week with aggregate traded futures at around 1.35m lots per day compared to 0.98m in the first half of the month. WTI volumes have been up at 1.07m compared to 0.97m in the first half of the month but dipped yesterday to 0.77m after the Oct23 contract expiry on 20 Sep.
  • ICE Gasoil aggregate trading volumes have average up at 380k this week compared to 287k in the first half of August, but Nymex gasoline volumes were just below normal this week at 173k.
