EUROZONE DATA: IHS Markit reports that the 5 countries that had both
manufacturing and services PMIs saw record contractions in activity in April.
- Spain and Italy saw the worst Composite contractions (9.2 and 10.9,
respectively), with France next-worst (11.1). Germany (17.4) and Ireland (17.3)
had the best.
- Net reduction in staffing levels was sharpest recorded in the 22 year old data
series. Spain and Ireland recorded the steepest drops in employment.
- Spain also had the most pessimistic services providers, followed by Germany.
- Average Eurozone output prices fell at the sharpest pace in nearly 11 years.
- The composite PMIs are consistent with GDP falling around 6-8% Q/Q in each of
these countries.
