India LNG Demand Boosted by Heatwave Amid Attractive Prices: Petronet

LNG

LNG demand from the power sector in India has been boosted by the current heatwave and is expected to remain strong in the coming two months, said Petronet LNG CEO Akshay Kumar Singh cited by Bloomberg.

  • The demand has helped Petronet’s Dahej import terminal to operate at peak capacity. Dahej capacity is expected to increase by 5m tons to 22.5m tons by March 2025.
  • Current LNG prices for long term and spot supply around $11.8-$12/mmbtu are attractive for gas imports, Singh said
  • Weaker spot prices, intensified industrial activity and the fuel promotion by the government could boost overall demand to 26-27m tons this year, Singh said.
