India to Expand Refining Capacity by 22% by 2028

India is planning to expand its refining capacity by 22% to around 309.78mn tons per year to meet the country’s growing energy demand, Indian junior oil minister Rameswar Teli said, cited by Reuters.

  • Indian refining capacity is estimated to increase by around 56mn tons per year, or 1.2mbpd, by 2028. Refining capacity is currently at 253.92mn tons, data compiled by Centre for High Technology showed.
  • The expansion is likely to sufficient to meet India’s projected demand for refined fuels in the long term, the minister said.
