US DATA: Initial unemployment claims above expectations in the Nov 17 
employment survey wk, +3k to 224k vs 215k expected and 210k in Oct 13 
survey wk, hitting the highest point since June. Claims were rev up to 
221k in Nov 10 wk (prev 216k). The timing of Veteran's Day, which 
occurred in the Nov 17 wk this year, may be to blame for the spike in 
adjusted claims.
- NSA claims -9,918 to 226,063 in the current wk, well below the 275,004 
level a year ago, but a smaller decrease than seasonal factors expected. 
- The 4-wk moving avg +2,000 to 218,500 in the Nov 17 wk, highest since 
July and +7k from the avg in the Oct 13 survey week. The avg would rise 
further next week if there is no revision to the headline figure as the 
215k level in Oct 27 week rolls out.
- Continuing claims -2k to 1.668m in the Nov 10 wk, but the 4-wk avg 
+7,500 to 1.650m. The insured rate of unemployment stayed at 1.2%.
