Introducing Survivors Benefit Tops List Of Most Popular Election Campaign Pledges

POLAND

A fresh opinion poll for RMF FM/DGP showed that introducing a monthly survivors social benefit, making more age groups eligible for free prescriptions and increasing personal tax-free allowance are the most popular campaign pledges made by Polish political parties so far. Respondents in the survey were asked which of the proposals made by politicians should be implemented:

  • Introducing social benefits for widowed persons: 71.8%
  • Free prescriptions for under-18s and over-65s: 69.8%
  • Raising personal tax allowance: 67.0%
  • Special benefit for mothers returning to work: 61.0%
  • Voluntary national insurance for entrepreneurs: 59.5%
  • Boosting "Family 500+" child benefit programme: 53.1%
Initial feedback from the the voters may give some indication about the future direction of the campaign, with market participants on the lookout for more fiscal proposals expected in the coming months. Any fresh announcements will be assessed through the lens of their implications for the inflation outlook and monetary policy.
The survey suggests that the ruling Law and Justice party's most hotly debated pledge to boost payments from its flagship child benefit programme (later backed by the main opposition party) is more polarising than may have been expected, although it has virtually universal support among people voting for the governing party.
