IP Falls 3.2% y/y (Est. +4.3%), NATO Enlargement Delegation Visits Sweden

  • * Industrial production fell 3.2% y/y in January, a significant miss on the expected 4.3% y/y expansion. The monthly figure fell 5.1% versus a revised +3.8% in December. The Central Statistics Office said that the output of Hungary's automotive industry, as well as its computer, electronics and optical equipment sectors grew, while output of the food, drinks and tobacco products fell.
  • A delegation from Prime Minister Orban’s ruling party will visit Stockholm to discuss Sweden’s bid to join NATO this morning. The group will then visit Helsinki on Wednesday to discuss Norway’s bid before parliament expected to approve the nations’ accession on the week of March 20.
  • The only way to save lives is through peace, not weapons deliveries or sanctions, Peter Szijjarto told MPs in parliament as cited by MTI. Szijjarto called on them to adopt a "pro-peace declaration" submitted by the ruling parties.
