Iran FM To US-Iran Does Not Want Expansion Of Israel-Hamas War

Wires carrying comments attributed to Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian speaking at the UN. Reported to have said, to the US that 'Iran does not want expansion of Israel-Hamas war', but that if the "genocide" in Gaza contiues the US will not be spared "from this fire". Amirabdollahian claims that Hamas is ready to release civilian prisoners, and that the world 'should support the release of 6,000 Palestinian prisoners'.

  • The Iranian FM is speaking at a UN General Assembly emergency special session on the situation in Israel and Gaza in New York City.
  • Since the initial Hamas attacks on Israel on 7 Oct, the US have warned other regional adversaries of Israel such as Hezbollah and Iran not to engage in the conflict, with the positioning of the USS Gerald Ford carrier strike group in the East Med seen as a direct warning that any attempt to open a second front on the Israel-Lebanon border would risk a major US response.
  • Earlier in the week, Israel claimed it has evidence of Iranian involvement in the lead up to the Hamas attacks, but 'cannot elaborate' further.
