Italy Imports From Russia Increase in September

Italy’s imports of crude from Russia increased to the highest since at least Jan 2019 in September according to the latest government data.

  • Italy intends to resolve the issue of Russia’s Lukoil refinery in Sicily in the coming weeks according to the country’s oil minister last week. The refinery has been supplied with Russian Urals with alternative supplies uncertain after the introduction of the EU ban on Russian seaborne crude on Dec 5.
  • Total imports to Italy fell slightly to 5.26m tons in September from 5.57m tons in July

    • Libya 683k down from 1.05m
    • Iraq 549k down from 600k
    • Saudi 435k up from 412k
    • US 187k tons down from 664k
    • Kazakhstan 171k down from 329k
    • UK 161k up from zero
    • Gabon 150k down from 167k
    • Angola 138k up from 137k
    • Nigeria 131k down from 218k
