Italy's Enel Prepared to Go Above It's Gas Storage Target

Italy’s Enel is on target to meet its gas storage target this year and will raise stocks further for Italian energy security interests its chairman has said today in an Il Sole 24 Ore interview.

  • Enel has placed 0.3 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas in storage and would increase that to 0.6 bcm by October.
  • The company is committed to storage of up to 1 bcm and everything above 0.6 bcm could be contributed towards the country’s energy security needs.
  • Enel expects to use 8 million tonnes of coal this year for power gen, compared to 4 million tonnes in 2021. The group chairman described its use as a “temporary need”.
