Japan Feb Exports +6.5% Y/Y; Imports +8.3% Y/Y

  • Japan's exports rose for 23rd straight month by 6.5% y/y in February, faster than the 3.5% y/y growth marked in January.
  • Imports rose 8.3% y/y in February, following the 17.8% y/y gain last month, marking the 24th monthly rise.
  • Trade balance in February was a deficit of Y898 billion, narrowing from the previous Y3.5 trillion deficit.
  • Exports to the United States and the European Union rose 14.9% y/y and 18.6% y/y respectively, and to China decreased 10.9% y/y.
  • Imports from the United States and the European Union increased 6.6% and 4.5 respectively, and from China fell 0.6% y/y.
