Japan Mar Exports Jump 16.1% Y/Y; 1st Rise In Two Mths

  • Japan's exports jumped 16.1% y/y in March due to rapidly recovering world demand, wiping off the 4.5% y/y fall registered in February.
  • Imports reported a second monthly increase of 5.7% in March, slower than the 11.8% y/y gain last month.
  • March's trade balance was a surplus of Y663.7 billion, expanding from the Y217.3 billion the previous month.
  • Exports to China surged 37.2% y/y while those to the United States and the European Union rose 4.9% y/y and 12.8% y/y.
  • Imports from China, the United States and the European Union rose 10.0% y/y, 6.5% y/y and 19.0% y/y respectively.
