Japan Oct Exports -0.2% y/y; Imports -13.3% y/y

  • Japan's exports declined 0.2% y/y in October for the 23rd consecutive monthly fall, although the result was slower than the previous 4.9% y/y drop in September.
  • Imports reported a 13.3% y/y decrease in October, following a 17.2% y/y drop in September, marking the 18th consecutive monthly fall.
  • October's trade balance was a surplus of Y872.9 billion after last month's Y687.8 billion surplus.
  • Exports to China and the United States rose 10.2% y/y and 2.5% y/y respectively. Exports to the European Union fell 2.6% y/y.
  • Imports from the United States and the European Union registered falls of 15.6% y/y and 11.4% y/y respectively. Imports from China fell 3.7% y/y.
