Japan Oct Ind. Output -2.6% M/M; 2nd Drop In 3 Mths

- Japan's industrial production dropped for a second straight month by 2.6% m/m in October, led by machinery and electronic industries, due to the decreasing demands.
- Shipments fell 1.1% m/m from last month, semiconductor equipment and flat panel display equipment were the main factors in the decline.
- Inventories fell for the first time in 5 months by 0.8% m/m. The automobile industry made the largest contribution to the increase due the shortage of parts and materials.
- METI downgraded its assessment from "production recovering moderately" to "Although production is picking up moderately, weakness is seen in some areas".
- METI sees production rising 3.3% (revised up from 0.8%) in November before rising 2.4% in December.
