Japan Restarts 890MW Ikata 3 Nuclear Reactor

Japanese utility Shikoku Electric Power plans to restart the 890MW Ikata No 3 nuclear reactor on 26 May according to Argusmedia.

  • The firm reactivated the reactor on 24 May and plans to resume test generations on 26 May, one day later than scheduled. Normal operations are scheduled to start 20 June.
  • The reactor has been offline since 23 February for annual maintenance.
  • Higher nuclear availability in Japan this year is likely to weigh on the country’s appetite for LNG. Japan’s nuclear output was up 68% on the year in April and May and June is expected above 100% year on year according to ICIS.
