Japan Sept Household Spending +2.3% y/y; 4th Monthly Rise

  • Average spending by Japanese households with two or more people increased for a second month by 2.3% y/y in September, decelerating from last 5.1% y/y increase.
  • Spending on food rose 1.2% y/y in September, faster than 0.9% y/y gain in August.
  • Spending on fuel, lighting and water dropped 1.6% y/y, narrower from last 3.1% y/y fall.
  • The average real income of households with salaried workers rose 0.2% y/y,
  • up from the previous 1.8% y/y decrease, marking the first rise in six months.
